Emma Clunie of Polgoon Vineyard talks to us about English Wine Week, producing wine in Cornwall and their launch at River Cottage Food Fair.
Here at Polgoon we are having a month long celebration and will be announcing the release of our 2013 vintage of Red wine, three White wines and Rosé wines.
The Polgoon red is already bottled and on the shelves, which is a single variety Rondo, a smooth and well balanced red wine. There are three white wines being released one made with a Madeleine Angevine grape, we have a Seyval and Ortega blend and a Seyval and Bacchus blend. We are also launching our 2012 sparkling white wine which is of an Orion and Seyval Blanc blend and our first ever Sparkling White wine . The Polgoon rosé is a single variety Rondo and there will also be a sparkling pinot noir that we are very excited about!
The 2013 harvest is our biggest yet and was an extremely welcoming sight after a few really poor seasons with no grapes. We are though very lucky with the wine that we do make we win awards every year and generally stocks don’t last past October.
This is what makes Polgoon wines even more special, our wines are made from the grapes grown on our vines. Quantity is usually limited to a few thousand bottles each year but what we lack in quantity we make up for in quality. Polgoon is a family run vineyard and each member has an important role in maintaining the vineyard. Georgia the youngest goes bud rubbing which means she takes off all the small buds at the base of the vine so they don’t take all the energy, Ben takes care of all the Vineyard Tours and Kim and John are the husband and wife team that keeps everyone happy.
Watch out for launch activities, we will be running competitions, events and winemakers tours. For more information please visit www.polgoon.com or keep up to date with latest news on Facebook, google+ and Twitter
